Autobiography
Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, and Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2020). After graduating in 1984, he began working as a junior researcher at the Laboratory of Microbiology at the Institute of General Biology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS). In 1986, he became a senior researcher at the Laboratory of Microbiological Synthesis at the Institute of Biotechnology of MAS. From 1989 to 1990, he was a trainee researcher at the Institute of Plant Physiology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (Moscow). From 1990 to 1992, he was a trainee researcher at the Biotechnology Center of Leningrad State University and later a postgraduate student at the Department of Genetics and Breeding at St. Petersburg State University. In 1996, he successfully defended his PhD thesis on "Genetic analysis of mutant strains of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii resistant to norfluorosan" and continued as a senior researcher at the Research Institute of Biology, St. Petersburg State University. In 2006, he defended his doctoral thesis on "The role of phototrophic microorganisms in the monitoring, functioning, and remediation of aquatic ecosystems" in ecology (03.00.16) and microbiology (03.00.07). In 2003, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor, and in 2007, Professor. He became a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan in 2017 and an academician in 2020. Since 2001, he has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology at Al- Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU), becoming a Professor in 2007. From 2011 to 2015, he was Head of the Department of Biotechnology at KazNU. Between 2015 and 2023, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology. Since 2023, he has been a Professor at the Department of Biotechnology. He established Kazakhstan's first Photobiotechnology Laboratory at Al-Farabi KazNU, where research focuses on molecular-genetic taxonomy of microalgae and cyanobacteria, the biology and ecology of microalgae, and phototrophic microorganism biotechnology. He collaborates with leading scientific centers in the USA, Japan, China, Poland, Russia, the Czech Republic, and the UK. Under his guidance, 18 PhD dissertations have been defended. He has published over 400 works, including 26 books, 8 monographs, and 30 patents. He has 84 articles in journals with a non-zero impact factor, a Scopus h-index of 20, and 1674 citation
